My Favorite Home Cupping Essentials + Bonus Items
Cupping is amazing! It’s a reverse massage that detoxifies tissues, clears stagnation (aches & pains), improves circulation, boosts collagen production, and improves skin muscle & joint integrity. You can see a variety of skin responses from cupping from pink to deep purple with occasional blisters which all give us specific information about the tissues being cupped. We’ll cover that in another blog. Don’t let this reaction chart scare you, this would represent body cupping as we don’t do stationary cupping on the face. Most responses fall under the first 3 or the last one. It depends on what is going on in the underlying tissues.
This is a quick, gentle technique. Start with 2-5 minutes until you know how your skin responds in each area. Never leave cups on too long. Never do stationary cupping on your face. Never use on swollen or broken skin. The fleshy areas are where you want to use cupping.
The adjunctive oils listed below are for sliding cupping and aftercare. Don’t like the cupping marks you’ve seen on athletes? Do sliding cupping instead. You control the amount of suction by how much you squeeze the silicone cups when attaching to the skin. It is not meant to be painful. Only do cupping to moderate tolerance. No pain, especially with sliding cupping.

I will tell you it is a nourishing herb (smells like pot, but is not 😉 ) that is typically burned over needles, on the skin with a barrier, or applied as a paste with a heat lamp on the skin by me, the Licensed Acupuncturist. This is an awesome way to nourish those who are cold: Blood, Qi, or Yang Deficient. Think pale, weak, dry skin, dizziness, undigested food in the stool (yup, I went there), and frequent colds and illness. These will all be addressed in future blogs so stay tuned!
