This has been an amazing find for my family, pets, and clients! I learned about homeopathy in 2004 when a friend of mine was going to Homeopathy School and stayed at our home occasionally. Made from the vibrational signature of natural plants, elements, etc. My children would actually ask for it when they were having difficulty with emotions. “Mom, I think I need some Rescue Remedy!” This would quickly help them move through whatever emotional state was presenting.
One year our cat Chuck, who was about 10 years old, was starting to appear achy, decrepit, and dull. My vet who was also a homeopath suggested 1 drop of Rescue Remedy in the water bowl each time it was refilled. We noticed a difference quickly. Visitors would even comment “He’s so bright, vibrant, and playful.” How could 1 drop of anything make such an impact? Chuck lived to be 21 years old! Equivalent to 100 years in cat years! I definitely noticed if we forgot to put it in he would start to become achy decrepit and dull again. Hmmm. Wow! How could something that is only a vibrational essence of flowers make such an impact?! For pets, Rescue Remedy can help with overall demeanor, separation anxiety, acclimating a new pet into the fold, obsessive behaviors, overall wellness.
There are many different formulations. This makes it easy to find the right one for you. The standard drops and spray are based in alcohol, typically brandy. The Pet & Kid’s formulations are based in glycerin. I have used both with my pets, children and self. One drop in the water has a big impact. It also comes in pastules.
Using it for myself I would notice any time I felt anxious, stuck, stressed, or unable to move forward, Rescue Remedy could shift my energy, mood, etc. Sometimes I would cry, expressing the stuck emotions which allowed me to become unstuck. I started keeping it in my lunch cooler to be available when needed. I didn’t require it often, but when I would remember to use it it was pivotal!
I like to keep one in my car as well. Anyone stressed by driving situations ever?! I was rear-ended in 2019 and had instant pain from the top of my head down to my shoulders on both sides. I was stunned and upset. I saw the yellow Rescue Remedy right on my console. I took 3 sprays. My pain dissipated. Then I would creep back in. I’d take it again. It dissipated. This cycle continued several times. I also eventually took a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula for releasing the exterior alternating with the Rescue Remedy. This was the day I learned firsthand that trauma (physical, mental, emotional) moves deeper if not addressed immediately. Between these 2 adjunctive stress remedies I did not have permanent damage from the whiplash. My neck was already fragile from life’s many experiences. It was expected that this would prove detrimental and chronic. I continued my regular care with Acupuncture, Chiropractic, CranioSacral Therapy, and Healing Touch with no long term effects.
With my Blended Acupuncture Sessions one of the 1st steps is an energy assessment where I check your aura (energy field). Most people are not centered and grounded. I teach empowering tools and techniques, like the Forced Exhale, your very 1st visit to help center and ground yourself. If that intrigues you, feel free to Schedule Now!
Big Tip here! The Forced Exhale.
This is a great tool you can use anywhere anytime, even while driving! You’re going to breath in through your MOUTH and out through your NOSE. The opposite of most breathing techniques. When you breath out through your nose you’re going to make some noise with your breath using your abdomen to push it out. This helps discharge all that which is keeping us not in our bodies, floating above in that anxiety or activated state. *Hot tip* You may want to blow your nose 1st. 😉 We’re going to do this 5 times. You want to energetically hunker down into your feet with each Forced Exhale. When we are in an anxious state, the bottom of our aura which should be at least 1 foot into the earth, can be up in our chest! So if you can imagine carrying a massive ballon around ( your aura) over your head. This makes us top heavy, easy to sway, tip, or trigger. Imaging being like a black chess piece made of stone with a sturdy solid base. Notice when you start to feel your feet on the ground again. This is where you want to be! You may feel clearer, more present, more in your body, less stressed, activated and anxious. Miraculously this can even resolve pain!
I have used this technique in the hospital with patients who need to endure at test where they need to lie still for a predetermined about of time. In 1 instance I had a patient who needed to lie flat and still for a Nuclear Test. He was certain he would not be able to complete the test as his back pain is excruciating lying flat. He had had back surgery years before that did not resolve his pain. It was 6/10, the same as before his surgery. This made him quite anxious to attempt the test. I asked if he’d like to learn a breathing technique that might help. He agreed. I taught him the Forced Exhale. He was beyond ecstatic as his back pain resolved completely! He was able to complete the test with minimal discomfort and was so grateful. Now he had a tool he could use to be empowered in his situation and his care! Many other hospital success stories for another blog.
Most manage this fairly easily, especially children! They take these techniques home and use them regularly so that when something stressful comes up they remember to use their tools. It’s always easier to ground and center when someone is holding space for you. People are generally successful by themselves as well. Sometimes we get in a state where it seems nothing we do works. This is when there is something bigger that needs to be moved – a past memory, belief, or trauma that gets stuck. Rescue Remedy is a great tool I recommend my clients have on hand for specifically these moments. I’ve done experiments in the office where we tried Rescue Remedy instead of the Forced Exhales 1st to center and ground and BOOM! It works. My goal in our sessions is to empower you to help yourself when you’re not in my office. I would always want you to try the Forced Exhales first, but having Rescue Remedy on hand for those times where it seems nothing works is golden!

Is phlegm an issue for you or someone you know? The obvious phlegm is respiratory – postnasal drip, productive cough, and runny nose. Other ways phlegm can go unnoticed are brain fog, less than par cognitive functioning, called phlegm misting the mind and heart orifices (usually mixed with heat) creating emotional issues like anxiety, insomnia, worrying, mental restlessness, dreams, nightmares, rash behavior, depression, dullness, even palpitations, and mouth sores. It can even cause nodules, cysts, and fatty tumors. At worst, with phlegm fire of the heart could be violence, agitation, shouting, muttering, and even aphasia and coma. That’s for another blog.
Phlegm is definitely something you don’t want to run rampant and be multisystemic. You may have seen my series on quick tips to deal with phlegm on IG or FB.
Firstly, always make sure you’re well hydrated to help transform, thin, and move the phlegm. Dehydration leads to turbidity, thickness, and stickiness promoting phlegm. Ugh!
Digestion is generally the next place to look as the spleen and stomach are dry organs and prefer to stay that way. Consuming cold, raw foods, greasy foods, sugar, and alcohol can contribute to shutting down the digestion, and promotes dampness and phlegm, hindering absorption and promoting turbidity. If unresolved, phlegm can not only affect the respiratory system – think postnasal drip, runny nose, upper respiratory infections, cough, sinus problems – basically attracting and promoting illness and leading to phlegm misting the mind and heart as listed above. Yikes! There’s a great reason to manage it!
Simple dietary changes can greatly improve this. Avoiding/reducing greasy, creamy, and/or sugary foods like dairy, guacamole, burgers, candy, desserts, deep fried foods, and alcohol is a great place to start. You may consider cutting them all out temporally and then slowly adding them back in, paying attention to your bodies tolerance and your phlegm threshold. Acupuncture, acupressure, and guasha are greatly helpful as well as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulas. Icy beverages, and cold and raw foods also promote phlegm. Moderate them and see the improvement. In the heat of the summer the body is more likely to tolerate cold and raw foods, and tolerance decreases throughout the rest of the year. Pay attention to what happens when you consume them and moderate from there. Cold congeals. Think Jell-O. That’s your phlegm. Just waiting for the next bug to come along and multiply. 🦠
I like to start in the kitchen with our basic spices and food staples. A regular go to for me is hot water with a cap full of lemon juice and a sprinkle of cinnamon and a sprinkle of ginger. Cinnamon and ginger are warming and moving while phlegm is caused by dampness and stagnation becoming turbid and turning to phlegm. Lemon is cooling and moving and also great for cutting phlegm. It’s great for liver detox as well. The hot water, as you know, will help melt phlegm. Here’s one to hold your nose for! Clam juice! A word of caution: if you have high blood pressure you would avoid this, as it is quite salty. A shot glass of clam juice or a quarter cup can greatly reduce phlegm. I wouldn’t use this often. I would reserve it for the worst cases of phlegm with heat as clam juice is also cooling.
Next I would add some Acupressure and Guasha. Stomach 36, the longevity point, is a master for many uses. This point has so many benefits! It clears the head, it’s grounding, it boosts the immune system and energy! It is great for any digestive complaint – nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, and heartburn. As phlegm’s root goes back to digestion, this is a great place to start. First, use acupressure. You want to use your finger to press on the points. Notice what you feel: tension, tenderness, or achiness. These are all indications that there is congestion, blockage, or stagnation in the channel/meridian. Gently massage and rub the point, increasing firmness as tolerated, and not inflicting pain, stimulating for 2 minutes. Notice what you feel in your body. You can do this several times per day while sitting at your desk at work or anytime that is convenient. I definitely like to use this at work.
Then I would do Guasha down that stomach channel to at least stomach 40 – the phlegm point. There’s no harm in going further down the channel. You can use the knuckle of your thumb, a spoon or jar lid or a guasha tool, typically made of stone, with some oil. Nothing sharp – we don’t want to break the skin. I’ll add a little bit of oil to the shin and then just stroke it down the shin. Sweat in the sauna works great as a lubricant as well. Start with light pressure and increase pressure as the tissue warms and loosens up. We never want to inflict pain. If you experience pain, you’re doing it too hard. Tenderness and achiness indicate stagnation. This is a sign that it needs help. Any acupuncture point that is tender or sore indicates there is congestion or blockage and needs attention. We always want to start gentle and see how it is tolerated. You could experience skin changes where the Guasha is applied, like redness, a purple hue, or even petechiae, similar to the cupping response chart in the last blog. Guasha is moving, clearing, and detoxifying. We all need that right?!

Cupping is amazing! It’s a reverse massage that detoxifies tissues, clears stagnation (aches & pains), improves circulation, boosts collagen production, and improves skin muscle & joint integrity. You can see a variety of skin responses from cupping from pink to deep purple with occasional blisters which all give us specific information about the tissues being cupped. We’ll cover that in another blog. Don’t let this reaction chart scare you, this would represent body cupping as we don’t do stationary cupping on the face. Most responses fall under the first 3 or the last one. It depends on what is going on in the underlying tissues.
This is a quick, gentle technique. Start with 2-5 minutes until you know how your skin responds in each area. Never leave cups on too long. Never do stationary cupping on your face. Never use on swollen or broken skin. The fleshy areas are where you want to use cupping.
The adjunctive oils listed below are for sliding cupping and aftercare. Don’t like the cupping marks you’ve seen on athletes? Do sliding cupping instead. You control the amount of suction by how much you squeeze the silicone cups when attaching to the skin. It is not meant to be painful. Only do cupping to moderate tolerance. No pain, especially with sliding cupping.
The bonus Moxa Packs at the bottom? What’s Moxa?! Hmmm, that’s for another blog as well! I will tell you it is a nourishing herb (smells like pot, but is not 😉 ) that is typically burned over needles, on the skin with a barrier, or applied as a paste with a heat lamp on the skin by me, the Licensed Acupuncturist. These packs do NOT smell like pot. Only when burned does it raise eyebrows. Lol.
This is an awesome way to nourish those who are cold: Blood, Qi, or Yang Deficient. Think pale, weak, dry skin, dizziness, undigested food in the stool (yup, I went there), and frequent colds and illness. These will all be addressed in future blogs so stay tuned!
By the way, if you have a lot of the above mentioned Deficiency symptoms you should go light on the cupping. We’ll talk about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Patterns relating to Qi, Blood, Yin, Yang, & Essence in future blogs as well.

Hey it’s Tanya! I’m posting about my favorite cat products on Amazon for finicky cats. My kitties require moist foods with their health issues. They were eating dry Grain Free food when we moved to AZ. After moving 5 times in a year, Thomas had bladder stones known to be caused by the broad pattern of damp heat in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In addition to stress, dry foods and warming foods cause damp heat which led to his bladder stones. We had an emergency vet visit in 2020 where they recommended a radical surgery for Thomas in addition to medications and Prescription Cat food. These significant dietary changes were the opposite direction I was going with their health and diet.
I found a holistic vet who was also an Acupuncturist. Thomas is not a fan of acupuncture, but laser acupuncture works wonders for him. She gave me recommendations on foods and herbs that I could manage his condition with. Moist foods and cooling foods were what was needed for him like rabbit, clam, whitefish, duck. He was to avoid warming foods like beef, chicken, lamb, shrimp, trout. She recommended TikiCat as it is Human Grade food, non-GMO, Grain & Potato Free.
Decreased stress once we finally landed was definitely helpful. He still requires occasional laser acupuncture, TCM herbs, and the occasional homeopathic drops to manage his condition but luckily no more emergency vet trips. Check out my IG & FB for more adventures from Thomas and his sister Princess as well as countless Health Tips and Tricks to more about Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Craniosacral, Healing Touch & more. Introduction to the Healing Art of Acupuncture, a Modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine Complementary Integrative Uses
When considering integrative medicine or “alternative” medical treatments such as Eastern or Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) you’re sure to come across acupuncture in your research.
You may be wondering…What is acupuncture? Where does it come from? What does it feel like? Why do people do it? What does it treat? Does it work? Is it safe?
In this blog, I hope to answer all your most basic questions and encourage you to learn more about how acupuncture can benefit you. So, I’ll jump right in. Acupuncture is a technique of inserting thin needles into a specific point on the body to stimulate nerves and balance the flow of energy or Qi (“chee”). Today in the United States, Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain but has been utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine for various conditions and ailments for over 3,000 years. Acupuncture is a relatively pain-free experience as the needles are thin and with proper technique there is little to no sensation of pricks or pokes associated with typical shots and other needles used in medicine.
Acupuncture in the United States
Acupuncture has grown in popularity in the United States since the 1970’a as it’s slowly studied and has shown to be effective, today it is widely used throughout the world and has become accepted as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). In the United States, only a Licensed Acupuncturist certified by theBoard of Medical Practice in MN and the Acupuncture Board in AZ is permitted to administer acupuncture as a treatment method.
Acupuncture Therapy & Treatment
According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), acupuncture has been shown to be effective in treating some types of chronic pain, such as low back pain, neck pain, and osteoarthritis/knee pain. It may also be helpful in treating migraine headaches and postoperative dental pain.
Ongoing research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Studies indicates that acupuncture be an effective treatment on its own or in combination with conventional therapies for a wide range of health issues including digestive, emotional, eye-ear-throat, gynecological, musculoskeletal, neurological, respiratory conditions and more! If you are curious about how acupuncture can help you contact me for a personal consultation.
Fifteen articles highlighting acupuncture have been published in Global Advances in Health and Medicine. Among these articles are discussions on the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating migraines, aiding veterans in overcoming PTSD, reducing the symptoms of multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy, and alleviating pain, nausea, and anxiety in pediatric oncology patients.
Acupuncture Safety & Risks
It’s important to note that acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified and licensed practitioner. The needles used are sterile, and the risk of serious side effects is low. However, as with any medical treatment, there are some risks, including infection, punctured organs, and rare cases of nerve damage. These risks are mitigated by strict regulation and proper use by licensed practitioners. To become a certified acupuncturist licensed by the Board of Medical Practice, I completed a master’s level training and associated degree. I am licensed by the MN Board of Medical Practice & the Acupuncture Board of AZ having passed 3 rigorous board exams including a biomedicine exam. I’ve completed over 3,000 hours of classroom and clinical hands-on training and experience. As well, I maintain certifications in Clean Needle Technique by CCAOM and am a certified Diplomate by the NCCAOM.
Conclusion
Acupuncture, a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is an effective and complementary treatment option for a range of health issues. From chronic pain to emotional and neurological conditions, acupuncture has been shown to have positive results both on its own and in combination with conventional therapies. As the popularity of acupuncture grows, it’s essential to seek treatment from a qualified and licensed practitioner to ensure safety and mitigate potential risks. With proper regulation and training, acupuncture can provide a relatively pain-free and safe experience for patients. I encourage you to learn more about acupuncture and explore how it may benefit you personally.
